Sustainable shopping for your community here at Tunstall Square

Manningham, we have listened, and heard that you want local stores to tackle environmental issues and promote sustainability. Tunstall Square shopping centre is happy to announce our new sustainability movement. Working together to eliminate waste, conserve energy and recycle. This way we can bring health and happiness to our square.

We are in the midst of a shopping revolution and the old way of plastic bags, styrofoam takeaways and buying new, are coming to an end. Today, people want tote bags, recycled plastic, paper straws and to upcycle anything they can. Tunstall Square wants to adapt to these new ways, and has made changes around the centre which our community will be happy to hear.

               Rethink – Refuse – Reuse - Reduce

                      Repair – Remodel – Recycle

Using the concept of the 7 R’s, Tunstall Square has rethought how to manage food waste by donating to local causes needing help. We also encourage the community to bring their own bags for shopping and say no to plastic. The square has a number of stores which allow clothing, shoes and accessories to be repaired rather than being disposed. Not to mention, the Doncare Op shop which is a great place to donate and buy pre loved items.

Have you heard?

Tunstall square is going solar in the near future with plans currently underway. This is not the only initiative being planned, others include:

  • Water bottle refill stations to reduce the need for single use plastics,
  • Living green walls to purify the air we breathe and bring mindfulness,
  • and community friendly spaces, to bring people together. COVID19 safe of course.

Irene Goonan, local store owner and advocate for the community has said she is excited for these changes, and encourages the local residents to come and support this movement.

“It’s great that our local shopping centres are working towards being sustainable and promoting healthy living, I look forward to seeing our local residents come and support this sustainability movement” Irene Goonan.

We welcome local residents, and visitors to the region, to come and visit us here at Tunstall Square and see all the ways we are working toward a green and sustainable future.

Your feedback is welcomed, let us know what sustainability initiatives you would like to see implemented here at Tunstall Square by sending an email to feedback@tunstallsquare.au.
